Quick Reference

Aluminum window & door fundamentals, in plain English.

The questions we answer most often — short, technical, and useful for the spec phase. Each topic has a long-form article in the journal.

  • A thermal break is a non-conductive polyamide strip inserted between the inside and outside aluminum profiles of a window or door frame. It dramatically reduces heat transfer through the frame, lifting the U-factor performance class of an otherwise highly conductive aluminum system into the same range as wood or vinyl — while keeping aluminum's slim profile, strength, and durability. Every ViewLux exterior system is thermally broken.
